I think Apple is seeing major vibe shifts that will be measured a few years from now.. That doesn’t mean that their revenue will slow down. In fact, their advertising business will do well.
For one, their anti-competitive behavior may affect their image. There are more and more companies that are feeling the pain that this inflicts in their business. First it was Spotify, then Epic. Meta and Snapchat are both seeing the consequences of their privacy changes and 30% charges for promoted posts. Google is definitely not happy with green bubbles vs blue bubbles. When will the Apple charge for Google to become the default search engine become a problem? Telegram is now publicly criticizing Apple for their 30% tax. I’m sure there are a ton of game developers that are unhappy too. I wonder how the crypto community will feel if some of their developments are blocked by Apple.
On top of that, Apple is growing their ads business, making them very similar to Meta. Their next bets are VR/AR and the Apple car. In both fronts, they are going head-to-head against founder-led companies: Tesla and Meta. Both Tesla and Meta bets are existential.
On the other side of the coin, Meta may receive less attacks by the traditional media as the focus now goes towards Elon and the bird app. Twitter will be the focus instead of Facebook. So Apple and Meta perceptions may change in the next 5 years. I love Apple products but I think there are some major vibe shifts happening underneath the surface. It will be interesting to see if these vibe shifts affect in any way these companies in the future!
